San Diego is home to some of the finest plastic surgery practices in the United States, attracting patients from across California and beyond. Choosing the right plastic surgeon is one of the most important decisions you’ll make — and board certification, experience, and a genuine alignment between the surgeon’s aesthetic philosophy and your personal goals are the critical factors that determine your outcome.
Why Board Certification Matters
Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) or the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) is the foundation of credibility in the plastic surgery field. Board-certified surgeons have completed accredited residency training, passed comprehensive written and oral examinations, and demonstrated ongoing commitment to patient safety and continuing education. Not every surgeon who performs cosmetic procedures holds these certifications — and the difference in training, experience, and accountability is significant. When searching for a plastic surgeon in San Diego, verify board certification as your first step.
Common Plastic Surgery Procedures in 2026
The most sought-after plastic surgery procedures in San Diego reflect both national trends and the region’s active, aesthetic-conscious lifestyle. Breast augmentation remains the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery, with patients seeking natural-looking results through implants or fat transfer. Mommy makeover procedures — typically combining abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast lift or augmentation, and liposuction — address the physical changes of pregnancy and childbirth in a coordinated surgical plan. Facelift surgery continues to evolve with techniques that deliver natural, rejuvenated results without the “pulled” appearance of older approaches. Rhinoplasty, liposuction, and Brazilian butt lift procedures round out the most requested surgical services.
The Consultation: What to Expect and What to Ask
A thorough surgical consultation is where the foundation of a successful outcome is built. Your surgeon should take time to understand your goals, review your medical history, perform a physical examination relevant to the procedure, present realistic before-and-after photo examples, explain all procedure options and their respective risks, and answer every question you have with complete honesty. At Sadrian Plastic Surgery in La Jolla, Dr. Reza Sadrian — a double-board-certified plastic surgeon — conducts every consultation personally, ensuring that your care plan is designed around your individual anatomy and aesthetic goals.
Medical Spa Services: Non-Surgical Options
Not every aesthetic enhancement requires surgery. The medical spa at Sadrian Plastic Surgery offers a comprehensive range of non-surgical treatments including Botox and dermal fillers, CoolSculpting body contouring, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and an advanced skincare product line. These treatments can address targeted concerns, maintain surgical results, or provide meaningful aesthetic improvement for patients not yet ready for or interested in surgical intervention.
Choosing Confidence in Your Surgeon
The relationship between a patient and their plastic surgeon is built on trust. The right surgeon will make you feel genuinely heard, will present options honestly without pressuring you toward any particular procedure, and will be transparent about what realistic results look like for your specific situation. If you are considering plastic surgery in the San Diego area, schedule a consultation with a double-board-certified specialist and invest the time in finding a surgeon whose expertise and aesthetic sensibility align with your goals.
